A Whole-School Approach to Forming Young Men

Boys are being told what's wrong with masculinity.

What if we showed them what it's for?

At a time when many boys are struggling to understand their place in the world and what it means to be a man, they need more than warnings about harmful masculinity.

They need a positive vision of who they can become.

TELOS is a whole-school character formation resource that helps schools respond to the influences shaping boys today, forming young men of character, purpose and service.

You are shaping the next generation.

But the conversation for boys has changed.

As a principal or teacher, you make an extraordinary difference in the lives of young people. Every day, you help shape not only what they learn, but who they become.

But today, you're competing with powerful online influences that can undermine the very values you're working to instil.

Boys are hearing conflicting messages about masculinity, relationships, power and their place in the world. And these conversations are finding their way into your classrooms.

Someone is shaping boys' understanding of what it means to be a man. Your school needs to be part of that conversation.

THE PROBLEM

The influences shaping boys are changing.

And the consequences are reaching our classrooms.

The headlines are becoming impossible to ignore. Misogyny, sexual harassment, violence and harmful attitudes towards women are raising serious questions about the influences shaping young men.

From the manosphere to pornography, highly sexualised media and the normalisation of violence as entertainment, boys are growing up surrounded by powerful and often conflicting messages about masculinity, sex, power and relationships.

These messages don't stay online. They shape attitudes, expectations and behaviour in our schools.

The impact is real.

Girls are experiencing disrespect and harassment. Female teachers are confronting sexist attitudes and challenges to their authority. And some boys are disengaging, uncertain about their place in the world and what it means to be a man.

School leaders are left navigating increasingly complex behaviours and attitudes that undermine the dignity, safety and culture of their communities.

You Don't Have to Navigate This Alone

You know the young men you want to form.

We can help you get there.

We understand the challenges facing schools. You're being asked to respond to increasingly complex influences on boys, while ensuring your teachers feel confident, your students are supported and your school culture reflects the values you stand for.

You shouldn't have to navigate these challenges alone.

For more than 20 years, Choicez Media has worked alongside schools and education systems, equipping educators to teach sensitive and complex topics relating to sexuality, relationships, human dignity and character formation.

We've brought that experience together in TELOS, a practical, whole-school framework that gives you the resources, formation and support to lead with confidence.

You are the heroes walking alongside and forming your students. We give you the tools to help form the young men they can become.

What success looks like

Imagine the difference your school could make.

  • Boys who know who they are and what they stand for.
  • Young men who understand that true strength is found in character and service.
  • Girls who feel safe, valued and respected.
  • Teachers who feel confident to challenge harmful attitudes and lead important conversations.
  • Parents and schools working together to form young men.
  • A school culture where dignity, respect and responsibility are lived every day.

This is what TELOS is designed to help you build.

Because you're not just shaping behaviour today. You're forming the men of tomorrow.

The cost of inaction

The influences shaping boys won't stand still.

The influences shaping boys today are powerful, pervasive and often beyond the reach of parents and teachers alone.

Schools have a vital role in the primary prevention of violence and harm. Working alongside parents, they have a unique opportunity to shape attitudes, challenge harmful influences and form young people in dignity, respect and responsibility.

When we fail to seize this opportunity:

  • Harmful attitudes become normalised, contributing to cultures of misogyny, disrespect and violence.
  • Girls and women continue to experience sexual harassment, violence and harm, both within schools and in the wider community.
  • Teachers and school leaders are left responding to incidents, rather than addressing the attitudes and beliefs that contribute to them.
  • Parents are left to navigate powerful cultural influences alone, without the support, language and resources to guide their sons.
  • Boys continue looking elsewhere for answers, missing the opportunity to develop a positive understanding of masculinity, relationships and responsibility.

Schools cannot control every influence shaping boys. But they can make a profound difference.

By working in partnership with parents, schools can help prevent harm before it occurs and form young men who respect the dignity of others and use their strength for good.

The attitudes we help shape today will influence the relationships, families and communities of tomorrow.

A Whole-School Approach to the Formation of Young Men

Give your teachers the confidence, your boys the positive vision and your school the framework to build a culture of character, purpose and service.
